MONDAY 7th/TUESDAY 8th:
For about an hour on Monday and then continuing the next day, me and Rachel started to look into what we could work on together. Rachel is looking into Greek Mythology for BA7 and brought in visual material of 15th century Renaissance painting. At the moment I am unsure about what I want to do for my studio work so I brought in material from my research for my research report on the effect of digital technology on Illustration. It was interesting because literally the era or time of our projects couldn't be much further apart. PAST // FUTURE. Therefore we thought we could look into this and how illustration or depiction of the female form/nude has changed over time. Then researching further into nude photographers and looking at work of Robert Mapplethorpe and Man Ray's photography and Tom Wesselman's Nude Paintings I noticed that the greek paintings were almost a photographic representation of an event that has never happened. As painting was only way to record at the time. These compared to photographs of nudes that did physically happen it is interesting to look into this concept. As well as also look into the subject of female nudes themselves, how they have been depicted throughout history, focusing on the renaissance paintings and contemporary photographers.
From this, Rachel gave me a number of paintings she had been looking at and I had to respond to them through collage, and I found her a number of photographs to respond to through paint. By working from these we then brought in our artwork to respond to on Friday for our Curated Dialogues.

Summary of our project:
Rachel is currently looking into Greek Mythology and Annabel is currently looking into new media and digital technology. After meeting and exchanging ideas we noticed that greek mythology renaissance paintings from the 15th century are almost photographically representing an event or story that never existed and Robert Mapple-Thorpe's photographs of “Patti Smith” present a nude in a situation that is a posed reality. Looking at art over the centuries and how the female nude has been represented, it is interesting to see how they’ve changed. Our response is for Rachel to take away photographs that Annabel has suggested on and develop her drawings from this and Annabel to take away classical paintings that Rachel has suggested and respond through collages. Addressing how the nudes have been seen in the past and the future, but also blurring the matter of reality and truth to show how they are portrayed. We will then join together for our recorded dialogue and discuss our first ideas together and what pieces we have come up with away from one another. Hopefully from this discussion, we will then be able to progress our work from the advise given in this discussion.
